Excellence in Environmental Education Award

The Eastern Sierra Chapter recognized the need to honor high school and middle school science teachers who excel at motivating and educating students in science and who emphasize the implications of the basic science material on current environmental issues.

Therefore, the Eastern Sierra Chapter offered an Excellence in Environmental Education award to a science teacher in the Washoe County School District. The award included $250 for the teacher, $250 for the school, and a handsome plaque honoring the winning teacher. The funds for the school will be used for field trips and laboratory supplies for the science program.

The 2011 Excellence in Environmental Education award was offered to April Keller, an Eighth Grade science teacher at Swope Middle School. Ms. Keller recognized that students are interested in environmental issues, and successfully used environmental issues to motivate students to learn basic science principles.

Future Awards. The Chapter hopes to continue or to expand the Excellence in Environmental Education program. This page will be updated to announce the program for the 2011-2012 school year.
